The “SGS Institut Fresenius GmbH” carried out a study for ETRA (European Tyre Recycling Association) on evaluation and measurement of emissions released into the environment of a football field with synthetic grass and Granulated Recycled Rubber BioSafe. The field located in Oporto was built by OPSA and incorporated with Recycled Rubber Granules GB 08-25.
Measurements were made in June 2008 and used to examine:

  • The amount of inhalable particles in the air, including dust particles
  • The existence of particles of metal or rubber in the air
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) in outdoor air
  • The volatile organic components in the outside air

It was also used to establish physical data (humidity, pressure, temperature and wind speed) of outside air to do the measures The study concluded that there are no rubber particles or inhalable organic compounds in the sport areas, as well as in adjacent areas. The study in this field was consistent with another one held in December 2006 and consistent with others made in Bergamo (January-October 2007) and Lund (June 2008).
